Defining Soul and Spirit

In many spiritual and religious beliefs, the soul and spirit are considered distinct yet interconnected aspects of a person.

The defining difference between the soul and the spirit can vary depending on one’s individual belief system – but generally speaking, the soul is often considered to be the essence or the innermost part of a person that is separate from the physical body and continues to exist after death.

The soul == essence that exists beyond the physical body and continues on after death.
The spirit == non-physical part of a person that gives them life and consciousness … deemed more an animating force (that gives life to the body) + associated with concepts such as vitality, energy, and the connection to the divine or a higher power.

In some belief systems, the spirit is considered to be the part of a person that is connected to the divine or a higher power, and is responsible for spiritual growth and connection to the divine.

Firstly, I would like to define the different parts that create you/me – humans.

I do feel that animals are similar in aspects, but this article is more to do with what I have previously experienced (as I would like to get these thoughts down while in my mind).

  1. Soul
this exists in a meta-physical realm (a different plane of existence than your body resides on). The soul exists entirely outside of our body.
  2. Spirit
this exists mainly in the body, but can travel outside the body and within the nearby surroundings (eg. floating above the body during Near-Death-Experiences + Out-of-Body-Experiences).
the spirit (or astral body) can also visit/communicate with other spirits (this happens within the spiritual realm, yes even while we are physically alive).
  3. Mind
also known as the brain. local consciousness.
  4. Body
your physical body. your outer appearance to the world.

Together, these 4 aspects make up a person.

With regards to the above …

  1. A reason why I believe that the soul exists entirely outside of the body,
is due to something unusual that happened when I fell ‘in love’ with my 2nd love.

Also the Astral projections mentioned within this website – whereby I had a conversation (with god?) and my soul said “I would like to move A… closer to me as she has a kind soul” (refer to The Astral : going back to the centre of all).

  2. With regards to the spirit and the nearby surroundings … I believe the spirit is still connected to the body by a ‘sort of cord of light’. At the stage of death, the spirit would normally return back to the Soul (but can linger in cases of murder/suicide) – as mentioned on the Astral Plane page of main website.

Many NDE’s mention of floating above (and outside of) their body.
I have personally experienced this several times (albeit the majority of mine were intentionally induced).
Although, one example of an involuntary (unexpected/uncontrolled) OBE … is where I ‘floated’ to another room in the same building, and felt my feet getting a foot massage (they were actually doing foot massages in the other room, but I didn’t know this at the time).

In terms of ‘romantic love’ … it is the spirit (or astral body) that travels through the tunnel to reach another soul prior to making the direct soul-to-soul connection.
Worth reading ‘Spirits/Souls + Energy Paths‘ as that blog post discusses how I went through a tunnel and reaching another spirit/soul (of another living person) and even having a conversation with that spirit/soul.
